San Diego Therapist Specializing in Eating Disorder Treatment for Adults and Teens
I know how frustrating it is to have something in your life that feels like it is overshadowing everything else. There is so much good about your life, but you don't feel like you ever find that ease, peace, and real happiness that you seem to see all around you. You can make peace with food. You can LOVE your body. You can treat your body with respect, be healthy, and not have food enveloping your mind 90% of your waking hours.
I am passionate about helping you work past any food or body images that are keeping you from enjoying your life in San Diego. I am originally from Denver, CO, but have fallen in love with San Diego. Whether you were born and raised here, or whether you are a transplant- it feels like this city makes the way that your body looks in a bathing suit feel a LOT more important. A walk on the beach can be so amazing and peaceful. If the way your body feels is in the way of you enjoying your toes in the sand, I can help.
I have a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and master’s degree (M.MFT) in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. I have been in the clinical field since 1997. I was in academia full-time for 12 years at Alliant International University's marriage and family therapy program in Scripps Ranch, San Diego. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California #87667. I hold membership in the following professional organizations: The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Foundation http://www.iaedp.com/ California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) www.camft.org
Through these organizations, I not only receive updates on cutting-edge research on couples, families, and eating disorders, I also often attend conferences in San Diego and elsewhere in the United States to present my own research in spirituality in marriage and family therapy, and spirituality and eating disorders. I often receive advanced training in San Diego via these organizations and others, such as UCSD's Eating Disorder Center and Center for Discovery (eating disorder treatment facility).
What does all of this mean for you? It means I am committed to learning, staying up to date, and making sure that what we do together really works. I strive to keep up-to-date with the latest innovated treatments for eating disorders, and food and body image issues. I don't just tolerate your belief system and spirituality, I respect and integrate it into everything that we do at the level that makes sense and feels good for you.
On a personal note, I enjoy reading mysteries and WWII fiction, watching movies, walking on the beach with my husband, going to the San Diego Zoo, watching movies in San Diego, spending time with friends and family. I have been married since the year 2000 to a wonderful, supportive husband, who lives with me in North County, San Diego.
I would love to help you find a process that really works. Whether you struggle with what could be classified as a eating disorder, or you just have a love/hate relationship with food or your body, I would love to help.
