Six Great Online Resources for Eating Disorder Recovery

Hello all! I want to share with you some great eating disorder resources that will be helpful over the holidays. If you are struggling with an eating disorder in San Diego, California or elsewhere, having the right information can be VITAL to your recovery. There is a LOT of eating disorder information online, and unfortunately much of it is inaccurate and potentially dangerous. I wanted to point you toward six reputable and reliable websites that provide accurate, up-to-date eating disorder resources that will help you and your family.

#1—National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)

NEDA is the largest nonprofit organization that aims to help both people with eating disorders and their families. On the website, they provide helpful videos and other extensive information about various types of eating disorders, as well as eating disorder treatment options. They also provide information on body image, eating disorder prevention, and recent statistics and research. NEDA’s website also delineates their advocacy work and offers suggestions on how you can get involved as well.

#2—University of California San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research

In terms of websites of San Diego eating disorder treatment centers, I’m partial to UCSD’s because I attend trainings at their eating disorders center regularly. What I appreciate about UCSD EDC’s website is that they outline not only the most recent research, but also the latest eating disorder treatment that reflects the research. I think that this website is especially helpful for families of minors with eating disorders. They also list various local trainings that eating disorder practitioners can attend.

#3—FEAST-ED.org

FEAST (Families Empowered And Supporting Treatment for Eating Disorders) is a nonprofit organization that offers support and resources for families affected by eating disorders. It is comprised of a global community of families who have had or who currently have loved ones with eating disorders. They say, “We are here because we have been there.” Their website provides lots of resources, including videos, blogs, handouts, and forums. There’s also a place to volunteer and donate to the organization (great holiday gift idea!).

#4—Jenni Schaefer’s Website

I love love love Jenni! She is the author of top eating disorder books, such as Life Without Ed, Goodbye Ed, Hello Me, and Almost Anorexic. On her website, you can read about her books, about her experiences with both eating disorders and PTSD, read her blog, listen to her music, and find out when she is speaking next in your area! Bottom line, if you want to feel inspired that you CAN recover, check out her website!

#5—ANAD

ANAD stands for the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. It is a nonprofit organization that has excellent resources on all types of eating disorders, including special populations with eating disorders, such as athletes and pregnant moms. They also have a nice section on body image, as well as a great blog. There are free, ANAD support groups all over the nation. There’s a list on this website, plus a list of treatment providers.

#6—ED Referral

ED Referral also has lists of treatment centers and therapists across the U.S. They also provide a lot of information on different types of eating disorders. The website has a section on men with eating disorders, as well as celebrities with eating disorders, which is interesting. ED Referral also addresses the challenges of paying for eating disorder treatment. They partner with Project Heal, a nonprofit organization that offers grants to help people get access to eating disorder care.
